OK, I definitely was not expecting anything flash but I was expecting clean because it was promised on the the website, but when we arrived the whole building was under construction and there was stuff everywhere. If they mentioned this on the website then that would be OK, but it wasn't.
The toilets were a mess and the ones nearest ours smelt of sewerage every time we walked past. They were never cleaned as well over the 4 nights I stayed there. The pies were OK, nothing flash. The rooms themselves were fine but some curtains would be good, curtains are not expensive. Overall for a little more money you can get something nicer. Part of the Thailand late 2007 travel blog |

Apr 19, 2006The double room with air-con was a very nice room for the price. Simple but cool and comfy. The major trouble we had here was communicating with the staff. I'd assumed that because the place is run by Australians, we'd have an easier time getting local info in English, but that wasn't neccessarily the case. The massage place around the corner that the hostel refers you to is a MUST. Clean, beautiful and a fabulous massage for 200 baht ($5 USD) Part of the Megan and Rich in Asia 2006 travel blog |

First, it was called Big John's Guesthouse. Both hilarious and sketchy. It also cost about 5 American dollars a night. Amazing. There were 10 of us staying at Big John's and we had rented out the only 12 person room in the hostel… Big John's, Palaces and Full Body Massages |

The place was called Big John's and was run by a large Australian. I had read good and bad things about the hostel and Big John but the place and guy were fine as far as I was concerned. The hostel does need some work but it was cheap… I have arrived in Thailand and I have a cold |

When we arrived, we had to take a taxi to our hostel called "Big Johns". It was run by an Australian and he was a very nice and helpful guy. Before we got there, he emailed us what to say to the Taxi driver in Thai to get us to the hostel. Thai looks like… "If there's a chance, take it...if it changes your life, let it." |

Big John ( The hostel owner) is the one to thank for that!! After a few drinks I was even seeing elephants in the street, this time they were real (not think a particular birthday celebration in Trishna!!).

Met Regina at my gate in Tokyo and decided that we should probably not stay at Big John's Guest House like we had reserved, but stay instead at a guest house nearer to the train station. Hopped onto our respective last legs of our flights to Bangkok and arrived near midnight. We told the taxi driver we wanted to go to the TT2 Guest… Bouncing around in a "Kamry" on a dusty road |
