Big Game Parks Reviews

Swaziland's Big Game Parks
This is the most relaxing of the 3 Big Game Parks. At Mlilwane you can organize guided walking tours, horse riding, or game drives. Expect to see zebras, antelope, hippos, crocodiles, warthogs, dassies, and lots of birds (it is supposedly a great place for bird watchers). There is a large rest camp area with the Hippo Haunt Restaurant and a small convenient store. There are also swazi huts you can rent for the night or if you prefer nicer accomodation, book Reilly's Rock Lodge. Mlilwane also has a backpackers hostel on it's outskirts - Sondzela Backpackers, so there really is accomodation for every budget here. There is also a cave that you can spend the night in after a scenic hike. It was awesome to stay in but in the middle of the night if you were to lift your head, it would probably be hit by a bat!!
This is my least favorite of the 3 - probably because I have spent the least time here. Hlane is the king's royal park and is where you would want to go to see wildcats, such as lions and cheetahs. You can drive your own car through the park with a guide or take a guided Landrover tour. The guides do a good job of getting you to the places where the animals are (especially in the middle of the day when they are hiding) so it is recommended to hire a guide. There is a rest camp here with basic ammenities and a convenient store.
Mkhaya is my favorite of the 3 parks. This is where you go to see big game, such as elephants, rhinos, buffalo, antelope, etc. The rest camp here is phenomenal - you sleep in these outdoor stone huts! It is almost kind of scary because throughout the night you hear all kinds of creatures lurking around your hut. And be careful if you turn a torch on at night because it will be swarmed with massive bugs!! They also serve a delicious meal at the rest camp after a late afternoon drive of usually some kind of game (we had impala stew one night). Then everyone sites around the fire and drinks!
All 3 of these parks are great in their own ways and it is definately something to experience when in Swaziland.
