I caught a taxi from Patong to the Big Buddha which took about an hour to get there.

The road up to the Big Buddha is very steep and has Elephant tours, local houses and a lot of stray dogs along the winding road up.

Once you arrive at the carpark you immediately focus straight on the giant Bid Buddha Statue that has been erected. It is Amazing.

Walking into the grounds you come to an undercover area where there is souvenirs to buy aswell as a Buddhist Shrine. When I went there was a Buddhist Monk giving out prayer bands and also giving a free blessing. Donations are highly recommended. To receive your blessing you line up kneeling on some mats that have been laid out and CORRECTLY Wai the monk who will then give you your blessing.

To enter the shrine area footwear must be removed.

Beyond the shrine is the walk to the base of the Big Buddha statue. Does include some stairs. Along the way up you will notice a whole heap of bells along the path. At the top of the short climb is another prayer area with incense you may light and a mass of other Buddhist statues including the Big Buddha.

It is Definantly worth a look and worth bringing a Camera along too. Just make sure not to take your smokes along as this is a Buddhist site you are not permitted to smoke on the grounds.

Being so high up It can get very misty and visibility can be reduced to zero, but this will only last a short time.
