A Mountain Airy in Montenegro - Bianca Resort & Spa May 04, 2017
We had a great stay at the unique Bianca Resort & Spa Hotel in Kolašin. Sitting at an altitude of almost 1,000 ft. and looking like a modern version of a Swiss chalet, the 8-floor Bianca bills itself as an exclusive resort and it certainly seems to have all the amenities you would expect of such a place.

The lobby of the hotel emanates a rustic feel with its stone floors, massive tree trunk supports, wooden interior ceilings and furniture, and 3-sided open, stone fireplace. There are several seating clusters scattered about the lobby which make great spots to gather with friends for a nightcap or perhaps a hot drink after a day on the nearby slopes in winter. Off to one end is the cozy “Pines Lobby Bar,” where several of our fellow tour group friends gathered at the end of our day's activities.

Our superior twin room offered 2 comfortable beds, a flat screen TV, desk, 2 chairs and small table, a nice size bathroom with tub/shower and interesting olive-oil based toiletries, robe and slippers, stationery, safe, and mini-bar. We had a pleasant view of the pine forest and Beljasica Mountains from our diamond-shaped window. The only negative for us was that our room was awfully warm both day and night, even with the window open and there was no air-conditioning to compensate for this; also, though I’m sure they would be very snug for the coldest of winters, the beds came only with thick duvets and no top sheets so you really couldn’t sleep with just light covers.

Breakfast and dinner were buffet style in the main first floor restaurant; waitresses/waiters would bring coffee or tea if requested. You could always find something you liked at the buffets as there were always many, many choices both for breakfast and dinner including vegetarian items and dessert at dinner. The food was good and filling but not especially memorable.

The Bianca Resort’s list of amenities goes on and on and I didn’t get to take advantage of a single one! There are 3 restaurants in the hotel and the previously mentioned bar. Along with indoor and outdoor pools, there is wellness center with a sauna, solarium, Turkish bath, fitness center and a professional spa staffed with therapists from the Philippines who will perform aromatherapy along with Balinese, Hawaiian and Thai massage, reflexology and wild lavender peels, in addition to salon services such as manicures, pedicures, facials, scrubs and hydrotherapies. See the hotel website for any applicable fees. Fitness Center and spa services are available for non-hotel guests for extra charges for both adults and children.

Other hotel services include 24-hour concierge service; 24-hour reception desk; Full service business center with work station and latest software; complimentary Wi- Fi in lobby area; same day laundry and dry cleaning.

World class hotel off the beaten track Sep 13, 2009
Kolasin is not an easy destination to reach for the average traveller, so it was a surprise to find a hotel that matches the standards of an international chain, while adding some character all of its own.

The Bianca reopened in around 2006 after a complete refurbishment of an older hotel. The original, alpine-inspired, building was kept but the interior was completely refurbished and uses a lot of wood and stone to give a natural feeling that fits well with the town being a centre for skiing and walking (a national park - Biogradska - is nearby).

The reception and bar area are very well kept and attractive and with stone floors, rugs and open fires, it must be a very cosy atmosphere in winter, and was welcome even on a grey September day. The staff were friendly and helpful when faced with queries about facilities and what to do locally. The restaurant was excellent, with good food and waiters who could explain the menu in good English (it should be noted that reasonable food is a lot cheaper in the town within a few hundred metres of the hotel). The breakfast selection was also good, including omelettes made to order, although coffee other than Nescafe was charged as an extra.

A 'superior' room was clean and attractive, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had an excellent shower over the bath and fancy Etro soap and shampoo etc. At 20 square metres, it felt a little cramped for two people and luggage, but there are various other grades of room from standard (15m2) to the presidential suite which at 187m2 should have enough space for anyone! If you are a very light sleeper, note that the front of the hotel faces onto the car park and service areas, and can be a bit noisier.

An excellent feature of the hotel is the pool and spa area, including a 25m swimming pool, jacuzzi, good selection of fitness machines, and (from 5-9pm) sauna and steam room, all included in the price of a room. The whole area is done out very nicely and includes a small cafe. Various massages and manicures etc are available at a charge. At the time of this visit, in September, the hotel did not have many guests, the cafe was closed and the area felt quiet, almost deserted.

I would certainly recommend the Bianca Resort & Spa. It has excellent facilities and represents something a little bit different from the average, frequently bland, four star hotel. If you find yourself in Kolasin, it would be an excellent choice!
