Bianca Resort & Spa Kolasin Reviews
World class hotel off the beaten track Sep 13, 2009
Kolasin is not an easy destination to reach for the average traveller, so it was a surprise to find a hotel that matches the standards of an international chain, while adding some character all of its own.
The Bianca reopened in around 2006 after a complete refurbishment of an older hotel. The original, alpine-inspired, building was kept but the interior was completely refurbished and uses a lot of wood and stone to give a natural feeling that fits well with the town being a centre for skiing and walking (a national park - Biogradska - is nearby).
The reception and bar area are very well kept and attractive and with stone floors, rugs and open fires, it must be a very cosy atmosphere in winter, and was welcome even on a grey September day. The staff were friendly and helpful when faced with queries about facilities and what to do locally. The restaurant was excellent, with good food and waiters who could explain the menu in good English (it should be noted that reasonable food is a lot cheaper in the town within a few hundred metres of the hotel). The breakfast selection was also good, including omelettes made to order, although coffee other than Nescafe was charged as an extra.
A 'superior' room was clean and attractive, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had an excellent shower over the bath and fancy Etro soap and shampoo etc. At 20 square metres, it felt a little cramped for two people and luggage, but there are various other grades of room from standard (15m2) to the presidential suite which at 187m2 should have enough space for anyone! If you are a very light sleeper, note that the front of the hotel faces onto the car park and service areas, and can be a bit noisier.
An excellent feature of the hotel is the pool and spa area, including a 25m swimming pool, jacuzzi, good selection of fitness machines, and (from 5-9pm) sauna and steam room, all included in the price of a room. The whole area is done out very nicely and includes a small cafe. Various massages and manicures etc are available at a charge. At the time of this visit, in September, the hotel did not have many guests, the cafe was closed and the area felt quiet, almost deserted.
I would certainly recommend the Bianca Resort & Spa. It has excellent facilities and represents something a little bit different from the average, frequently bland, four star hotel. If you find yourself in Kolasin, it would be an excellent choice!
