From Agra we caught the public bus. It was our first public bus and it looked like it was ready for the scrap heap but it was comfortable enough, air con was either the  fan above your head or open the window ! We got to say goodbye to Agra but not before a good half hour ride through its dirty streets and seeing more amazing sites of daily movement of everyday people.  The countryside to Bharatpur in Rajasthan was flat and dry, fields were being attended to by farmers and wom...

We had only a short bus ride of an hour anf a half to Bharatpur - plus 4 of us and our luggage cramming into each tuk tuk to take us to some resort hotel, probably 5*, on a main road.  This is Bharatpur - home to not much as far as I saw except a dusty road of dirty street food stalls, a bus station, and some hotels along a main road - oh yes, and the star attraction which surprisingly attracts loooads of tourists, is a bird sanctuary.  This is where migrating birds form around the ...

We are staying in an old shooting place that, Edward would love. Lots of dead things on wall, and photos of people with dead lions etc. The bird sancturay, made us feel like David Antinborough, our guide had a telescope, so we got to see the bird really close and he could spot them in the tops of trees. But the best bit was seeing the storks nesting. They were 4ft tall with a 5ft wing span and there must have been 50 in one tree. It was crazy. They fly so funny, there legs come down like land...
