Hi All,
Taxi in istanbul could play you "abracadabra" with bank notes. Meaning not only they will try to charge you double or triple even more of the normal rate but they could try to take a 50 note and then turn it somehow into a 5 !! and then pretend you mistakenly gave then a 5 note instead of a 50. This is also valid for the YTL 100 note that could be changed to an old YTL 1 Note. Be very careful !! |

As in any foreign city, negotiate rates for taxis prior to hiring them.....then be prepared to go half way and have the driver ask for more money to take you the rest of the way. Your choice to pay or get out and walk. I found the taxis in Istanbul either frustrating or a trip to the cleaners. I like how they ask you how they can spend your money.
