Beware of Bears Yosemite National Park Reviews
Sep 03, 2007
I didn't get any sleep the last night in Yosemite because I could hear other families in nearby campsites screaming, yelling, banging on things - making as much noise as possible. You could hear the screams travel through different spots in the campgrounds, like a trail of horror coming closer to you.
Bears paid a visit to people's campsite.
*** The campers most likely left out food or something with a fragrance.
*** Maybe they didn't secure their food lockers properly or were careless before they went to bed that night.
*** They may have had something in their car that they never thought a bear would go after.
I can't express how important it is to listen to the rangers and read the brochures about bear safety AND to take it seriously. I will never forget the horror in one young child's scream from only a few campsites down. We did have a bear come through our campsite on 2 nights, but it didn't stick around because there was nothing left out.
Items to be careful of:
* Food (even in bottles or jars, soda/beer in cans or bottles)
* Toiletries (they love toothpaste)
* Even Car Seats (the food kids dropped in the seat can leave a scent for bears - best to take the car seat out of the car and leave it on the picnic table)
Best thing to do when staying in Yosemite - read the brochure and talk to the rangers.
Don't get me wrong...You can still have fun in Yosemite - just play it safe.
