Beware When it Says it's Historical in Miami, FL Mar 23, 2011
As much as I love Miami, one thing I absolutely hate about it is that it tries to cover up shady parts of town by putting the word historical in front of it. The biggest example is historical Overtown in Miami. Yes, there are things of historical value there; however you should go during the day and be extremely careful if you choose to be brave enough to go.

One wrong move and you could end up mugged, or worse: dead. Miami has cleaned up a lot since the 80's; however the crime rate is still very high: especially in those areas. One of my favorite places to look through is Opa-Locka; however it's usually from a train ride. There you see excellent Moroccan architecture, but it's not exactly the best part of town, so either see it quickly from a train ride, or be brave and walk around quickly.

Never look like a tourist and be aware of your surroundings. Other than this though, please do enjoy Miami. It is an amazing city and is worth the visit. I just feel like I should warn potential tourists before they end up in a bad situation. The warning really spreads throughout Miami, but mostly in the areas I mentioned above. Just be aware of your surroundings, be safe and have a good time. I promise the visit will be great. =)
