Alpine beauty in Snowdonia National Park Oct 04, 2013
Mount Snowdon might get all the plaudits, but pretty little Betws-y-Coed is a pleasant place to spend a couple of days, making you realise there's more to the area than the famous mountains. Lovely scenery can just as well be enjoyed from here!

The most obvious attraction is Swallow Falls, a rolling waterfall that is more soothing than spectacular, but the main draw is the hills surrounding the town. Gwydyr Forest is the ideal place to hike, or bike, or even pony trek: the woodland itself, filled as it is with fir trees, creates something of an Alpine effect. The walk we undertook was up to Llyn Elsi, a gorgeously tranquil lake that, even in peak season, is remote enough to have to yourself.

Betws is a popular tourist destination, so accommodation outside of camping is likely to have to be booked in advance. We camped, and there are sufficient camp sites around town, but lots of hotels too if you're that way inclined! A few nice eateries too - try Bistro Betws-y-Coed for hearty, rustic Welsh favourites such as cawl and local Welsh lamb.

Nature at its Best Mar 15, 2009
Water, water all around! From your head to the ground! (That is if it rains ;)).

Betws-y-Coed is a lovely spot for all the family to enjoy, it has nature in all different shaps and sizes, from thousand year old trees; to beautiful walks through Snowdonia to amazing waterfalls & rivers.

To view all these is free! To go to shops & pubs, the prices can range from very well priced to O My, quick walk in & a quick walk out. 1 2 1 2 Chop Chop. The main square of Betws-y-Coed, holds a green where local children play games & where you can take a seat & watch the world go by. The sqaure also has public toilets, however there is a cost of 20p, so if your busting make sure you have 20p to hand. All funding goes to the conservation of Betws-y-Coed, so 20p will help in the grand sceme of things with all the cross legged people you see rushing out of cars! Heheh.

During all seasons Betws-y-Coed, has something different to offer, be it the different birds that you see, or the different sights. Dogs are welcome & so are camper vans & trailers in the main car park!

Being open all year around, people come to Betws-y-Coed often. On a Sunday its a heaven for the bikers, so if your a biker, take a ride up (AT A SAFE SPEED PLEASE) and go grab a coffee & cake & compare bikes & trails. The bikers also hold annual rides there & around Snowdonia so if you make a friend, you can have Biker Meetups!

Please ensure you have break down cover for your car or bike. After having a beautiful day, me & ste (my other half) went back to his car to find out, it wasnt working!. Now Beyws-y-Coed, has pubs & hotels which remain open all night, the shops around the sqaure dont which is where the main car park is! Upon leaving from 5, we remained there till 9 when the break down people arrived, and the car park was dark & spooky & it was rather cold!

Speaking of cold, the weather at Betws-y-Coed can change at the drop of a hat, being within the mist of Snowdonia, So always have a jacket to hand as it can get alittle breezy!

And always remember to take your camera! Enjoy
