Best western socorro hotel & suites Reviews
Clean and simple Jun 21, 2008
After speaking with colleagues who stayed at other hotels in Socorro, NM during our conference last week, it seemed my choice of the Best Western Socorro Hotel and Suites for my week-long stay was wise.
My initial reason for choosing this hotel over the other conference-sanctioned hotels (Howard-Johnson Inn, Super 8, and Holiday Inn) was that the pool/jacuzzi area was open to patrons 24 hours a day. This proved to be quite convenient. However, the pool was rather warm, and the jacuzzi wasn't warm enough, so the experience lacked the contrast I appreciate when going back and forth between a jacuzzi and pool.
The breakfast buffet was my source of breakfast for a week. DIY (Do-It-Yourself) waffles were the most unique and fun part of the complimentary buffet. Plastic cups of waffle batter were out on the counter, and patrons could make their own belgian waffle in about two minutes to enjoy something hot and fresh.
Some sort of hot protein foods would have been nice. After the first couple of days, cold, hard-boiled eggs just didn't seem very appetizing anymore. Many types of bread-based foods provided some variety: 4 types of cereal, 3 types of bread for toast, various pastries, bagels, english muffins, 2 types of regular muffins.
Also available were apples and bananas, 3 types of fruit juice, yogurt, and of course toppings and condiments appropriate for all of these little delights.
The best part of my stay was finding out that my colleagues at the Super 8 down the street were seeing plenty of cockroaches, and that their swimming pool looked horribly filthy.
In contrast, in a time-span of about 10 minutes, three different housekeeping staff stopped in. My room already appeared clean: the beds were made, towels were replenished. They claimed to be 'just checking.' One of the incidents happened as I was stepping out of the shower, and sounding quite annoyed, I informed the staff member that someone had 'just checked' 10 minutes prior. She apologized profusely and left, but I'm still not sure what they were checking for. I prevented further intrusions by placing the 'do not disturb' sign on my door whenever I was in my room. The point is that the staff are very keen on keeping the place clean.
My recommendation is to stay at either the Best Western Socorro, or the Holiday Inn next door, which is owned and managed by the same entity. Hotels closer to the downtown area and the Plaza may offer other good options.
