Eh-good rate in an area FULL of hotels that is 10 minutes away from just about everything! Jun 24, 2011
The hotel is situated in Hotel Circle and hence, we are surrounded by a variety of hotels from the Vagabond Inn to some higher end facilities with their own golf course. The hotel has outdoor hallways and it is modern, but somehow gives off the air of a 60s style road side hotel on the bottom of a small mountain (or large hill-depending on how you look at it). The room was nice and the furnishings were up to date. Our room had a fridge, eventhough it did not work. This hotel uses motion-sensored lightings to save electricity (these lights will go off if no one is in the room).
Unlike most hotels, breakfast is not included here, but their cafe has a range of items to get your day started. It's a bit expensive for breakfast ($11 for 2 huge pancakes, 2 bacon, 2 sausage patties, 2 eggs, and a cup of coffee or tea).
The pool is nice with extended hours, but the sun was gone by 730 (in June) and the entire pool is covered in shade by then. They have an outdoor jacuzzi (which is a good idea after a day of walking and wandering around SD).
No major complaints. Good location. 10 minute drive to downtown, airport, beach, restaurants and a huge Simon mall. They have a free shuttle to Balboa park and the zoo (although zoo parking is free, but Sea World is not).
We asked for a new fridge and was told it'd be changed, but it never was. They have a computer to use at the front desk and they having vending machines for your soda needs.
If you want a place to stay for a few days, stay here. If you want a little more luxury, there are several options around. If you want a cheaper option, there are also a few options in the nearby vicinity you could choose from....in general, Hotel Circle is a great place to stay cause it's less than 10 minutes from several major attractions in the San Diego area.

The first thing i thought when I walked in the door of the room was 'Grandma?' It wasn't that the room looked old, but it seemed old. The furniture looked like the stuff in my grandma's house where she kept plastic on things to keep them super clean. The furnishings seemed to have come from the 1960's, but just that afternoon (actually more like a year or two, but still pretty new for the style.)
The room itself seemed a little cramped. Like it was designed for a queen bed instead of the king that was in it. Otherwise it was comfortable. Internet worked well, which was good as I would need it over the coming days.
The location is good for both public transportation and driving. There is the light rail station mentioned early about a 5-10 minute walk away or a two minute ride on a relatively frequent bus.
The attached cafe has an equally ambiguous vintage feel somewhere in the fifties meet 70s vein. The food was edible but not spectacular.
For a hotel of this quality and in this location, I would have expected to pay more. Not a lot more, but definitely more. Overall, this place suited all of my needs and I left very satisfied.
