Small hotel situated in a fabulous area of town Nov 22, 2010
I was back in Paris for a conference in the huge conference area at Paris-Nord but had decided to live in the centre of Paris near the Louvre because I had once stayed in the airport area and that was terrible boring. Therefore I had found a small hotel in the city centre which I thought would be appropriate for a couple of days stay. I had been looking for a place that was close to some of the areas of Paris that I like because I would have little time after the conference to walk around and it was also the time of year where it could be cold in Paris.
My choice fell on the Best Western Hotel Louvre Piemont, which was situated just next to Palais Royal Gardens; therefore in the heart of historical Paris, and just steps away from the Louvre Museum, the Tuileries Gardens, Centre Pompidou of modern art and just few hundred meters from the Latin Quarter.
The Best Western Hôtel Louvre Piemont was a small three star hotel that only offers 20 rooms situated in Rue de Richelieu. I arrived in a taxi from Gare de Nord and had to pay less than 7-8 euro for the ride that saved me for a cold and long walk in a rainy Paris. The hotel was so small that it was easy to miss from the street and only the house number indicated where is was situated; even the taxi driver had to look for it in the street.
I was there on a Sunday evening just before 9 pm and the hotel was pretty quiet and so was the entire neighbourhood actually. I entered the hotel and walked to the small reception that was situated on the left to the entrance. Behind the counter an elderly woman greeted me and quickly gave me my room which was situated on the 4th floor. I didn’t have any expectations on the room and therefore didn’t know what to expect as a left the small elevator at my floor and only saw 3 doors; there was not even a hall there.
The room turned out to be quite spacious and much bigger than I had anticipated. Just inside the door there was a small closet which had the mini bar and next to it, the double bed; which to my surprise was a real double bed. Then there was then a very small desk situated in an alcove; opposite of this there was a large closet and then an extra single bed or a sofa. The furniture was far from new but they worked. In the end of the room the bathroom was situated and much to my surprise it was quite large as well.
The bathroom was the only room where the heating was turned on and the rest of my room was quite cold, so I decided to turn on the heating and go for a walk in the area and find a place to eat.
The best thing about this hotel turned out to be the location that to my point was totally superb. The neighbourhood that might look a bit boring on a Sunday evening was active and vivid the following days and staying at a hotel situated in the Theatre area is just fabulous. There are a huge number of restaurants in the area and if you are in to Sushi this is the neighbourhood to stay in.
There are also a large number of cozy bars in the area and the metro is only situated 200 metres from the hotel. The location of this hotel is great.
Next morning I when for the breakfast of the hotel that was included but that was not really worth the visit; it was the normal Paris breakfast where you get a croissant and the of the items are wrapped up in plastic or in small packages. Then I much rather prefer to walk to a café and have a croissant and coffee there and get some of the Paris feeling.
