Best Western Kinabalu Daya Hotel Jul 09, 2012
Unsatisfactory service.

The moment we came out of the taxi, the door was opened widely to welcome us. The bell man did his job well. But that's just about it.

We stood at the reception for a while but the 2 girls were busy chatting and did not acknowledge us! We booked through so our check-in was supposed to be easy. But no. It took her 10mins to key in our details and I saw her kept changing the room that was supposed to be assigned to us. From 1xx to 3xx to 2xx then finally to 5xx. All the while, the 2 girls were taking their own sweet time with no welcome smile, no nothing. I asked for a second room key but there wasn't any.

The lift was small and narrow. If you have a backpack, then 2 persons + 2 backpacks will fill the lift.

We went to the room. We were extremely disappointed!! We had high hopes for Best Western as we got an excellent hotel in Phuket. This was nothing like it. Room was small and dark. Cupboard was broken, sink cracked, lock to the main door was broken, switches for light available but there were no lights?!, ceiling had water leaking stain, no floor mat, no safety box, no iron and small tv with very limited channel. I'm sure you know black and white tv? Well, ours was black and red. See photos and you'll understand.

We hated the room and decided to change room. We then got a room 4xx. This time, we got a 'proper' room key with their logo and has a duplicate too. But we should get breakfast vouchers for 3 days, but she only gave us one. She said she'll bring it to our room, but never did.

When we arrived at room 4xx, the door was left ajar! Suspected something amiss, we checked the entire room just to be safe. Everything was ok, except there were left over food in the fridge.

Should they had assigned us this 4xx room in the first place, I wouldn't hate this hotel so much. Although things seem to be much better, I still did not like their service.

Wifi connection was slow too.

Old but clean hotel in good location Apr 24, 2012
Stayed for 3 nights during our recent visit to Kota Kinabalu. Had booked through the internet. Rm104 nett per room for two with breakfast. The hotel was built at the time when they built rooms that are large and comfortable. Not like some of the newer ones which are small and cramped. The location of the hotel is fantastic. Just a street away from the waterfront where all the action is. Our standard twin rooms doesn't have a window and it caused havoc to my sleep as I have to rely on the alarm clock to know when it is daylight. My friends have upgraded their rooms with windows. I should have done the same. :( The published rate are Rm115++ for standard twin. Family room which consist of two rooms is RM260 ++ . Breakfast is okay. They have western and local fares. The bread we used for toast was molded. So watch out.The hotel has dual frontage. There are 7-11 shops in the back road as well as in the front. There are many famous eateries around the hotel. There is free wifi or you can use the computer at the reception area for RM1 per ten minutes. There is a tour desk at the reception area but it is pricey. There are many smaller hotels around. Although they are cheaper I like the rooms in hotel as they are large. I would definitely stay here in my next trip.

Best Western Daya Feb 28, 2012
The Best Western in Kota Kinabalu was our base for two nights. It has free wifi, pleasant rooms and nice staff.

The room was clean and pleasant. The lift door closed on me, which isn't great, but there were no more significant problems with the stay. the staff were great (and very understanding about us being picked up in the middle of the night to go rafting, considering it's more of a business hotel than a backpacker hotel.

Breakfast was nice. There is also a bar, but I didn't use it.

Easy and Convenience Mar 15, 2011
Approximately 15 minutes away from Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Best Western Kinabalu Daya located in the heart of the City. The room are clean and worth to pay for your stay. Sunday market is only 2 blocks away and about 7 minutes walking distance to the Jesslton Point(Jetty) if you wish to cross over to the island. You may also enjoy having your beers at Hunter's Cafe or you may also join the crowd singging karaoke.

A nice budget hotel Jun 24, 2010
i used to stay a lot with this on my long stays to kota kinabalu. the staff is very friendly and its a nicely located hotel...close to market, pubs, nightclubs and waterfront...

The hunters pub on ground floor is a nice place to meet the locals over some drinks....The only problem is the loud locals can sometimes add a bit too much to the cacophony. While booking i would suggest if you can take room above 3rd floor or else face the music till wee hours.

The breakfast is included and is quiet a mix of malay and american breakfast. The hotel is next to gaya street so you can be part of the sunday market on the street which is a nice thing for western tourists. Lots of nice restaurants around like little italy, Texas (best lamb chops in town), upperstar for good food and drinks, burger kings. Cocoon and shenadighan are good places to shake a leg on wednesdays and weekends.
