Average Hotel with below average location Jun 03, 2005
I stayed in this hotel because I wanted something a few Metro stops from Termini and it seemed modern enough for a good price. Generally I don't like staying near Termini and try to get a bit of distance away, so this seemed like a good choice. The location turned out to be not all that great. The Metro stops (San Giovanni & Re di Roma) are located within a 5 to 10 minute walk of the hotel, but the area is surprisingly limited in Restaurant choices. There are some shops, but more so the kind you would find in a residential area and not all that interesting.
The room itself was really quite average, and mostly what you expect at a Best Western. There was a bit of traffic noise from the outside street, but not too annoying. The room was clean and the staff helpful and friendly. I can probably say there are better choices in Rome and this area just seemed to lack a bit of ambiance and was more residential/commercial. It's a decent enough hotel, but the location is definitely a downside. I actually walked to the Colosseum from here and it took about 30-40 minutes, with not much interesting to see along the way. There are buses in the area too, but they seemed surprisingly infrequent.
Overall, it's an average hotel with below average location. For Rome you can do much better with location. While I can't fault the hotel itself, the area it is located in is quite boring, and not an area I would stay in again.
