located in the nice area of Naples Aug 17, 2011
This hotel is located in the nice area of Naples called Posillipo. The lobby overlook mount Vesuvius and it is a gorgeous view. The front desk people are friendly but not very helpful. They only give us very short answers and direction.

Our room is nice and clean and bathroom is also nice and clean. The bed is comfortable. We didn't get the ocean view from our cost extra 60 euro/night for the ocean view room. But we still get to see a little bit of the ocean from the balcony.

The elevator work just fine. Internet is free.

this hotel is also very close from Funicolare (cable car) about 5 minute walk to get down to the ocean and you can walk to the small marina if you want to hop to other islands.

There's really nothing around the hotel..there's a bank with ATM machine across the hotel but the neighborhood is very clean considering Naples is a dirty city. The bars and restaurants are down by the water and you have to get a taxi or bus to get to city center where the shops are.

Breakfast is pretty much the same like in any other hotel..pastries, meat, cheese, fruit juice. You can sit inside or outside looking over mount vesuvius. I think the best part of this hotel is the view from the lobby and the restaurant.

Hotel With Great Views of the Bay of Naples Jun 15, 1999
I can't exactly recall the reason I chose this hotel to stay in, but as memory serves me it was to be high up and see the Bay of Naples. It certainly delivered in that regard and the views are absolutely spectacular. Unfortunately I didn't have a room with a full view of the Bay (which I had requested) and all those rooms were taken, but the hotel has a rooftop terrace where you can enjoy them for a drink, dining, or just relaxing. One night there was even a wedding taking place up there which was interesting to have a look at for a few minutes. The staff was nice enough to allow me to linger for a bit.

Regarding the staff, it was rather odd in this regard. Some were friendly, some rather grumpy. They were never rude, just rather moody I thought. I had various encounters in using English and my poor Italian to communicate to various degrees of success and failure as the case may be. Overall though they seemed a decent collection of personalities, even if we didn't always get along. I have learned that the Italians express themselves in different ways depending on which part of Italy you are visiting. The Neapolitans can be quite moody, but also possess a unique sense of humor such that they can be serious and funny simultaneously!

Anyway, the hotel was certainly to my liking. The room was comfortable and the terrace quite spectacular. There is not much in the neighborhood of the hotel in regards to shops, restaurants and such and you need to go down to the Bay to find that, and there is plenty to enjoy there. There is small bar/cafe right across from the hotel entrance (or was) where you can (or could) enjoy a drink, snack or such, and it is much cheaper here than in the hotel. There are a few places like this scattered about, but not much else to do up here. No matter, the area of the bay down below has much to offer.

Directions wise, if adventurous, look for bus 14 from the airport to Piazza Garibaldi, which is a wretched hyve and don't linger long here. Enter the station there and take the train to Mergellina (4th stop from Garibaldi). Take a right outside Mergellina, walk to the bay and look for Funicolare (cable car) on the right. It's in a building with a tabbachi. Take the Funicolare to S. Gioacchino. Take a right out of the Funicolare and the road winds around about 100m to meet an adjoining road. Take another right here and Hotel Paradiso is a short distance on your left.

This is another of my retro reviews, and while I cannot speak of the present conditions, it has been my experience that the essence of such places never changes much. Certainly the views for this place are very much the same as they were when I stayed here in 1999, and this is the reason to come here. Hotel standards may rise and fall, the staff may be better or worse, but the views are something you can always rely on here. When in Naples, stay near the bay and have a look at Hotel Paradiso. Even if you don't stay here, I can recommend the view will not disappoint you!

I've stayed in a number of Best Westerns in Europe, and even though a chain, they are not cookie cutter hotels and usually retain their unique individual qualities.

Brain, fantastic and very detailed review with brilliant photos. I am usually not too keen on staying in international chain hotels on my private trips, but this one has indeed outstanding views.

@ Francis - Part of the appeal of the Bay of Naples!
