Best way to move around the city Barcelona Reviews
Buses from airport, subway Aug 19, 2011
Overall, Barcelona is a city with decent public transportation. Here are some tips for travelers arriving at the airport.
Going to the city center from the Airport:
Easiest way is Aerobus. You can catch a bus every 15 minutes, the frequency is very good.
They only have a few stops but you will get to the city center (Plaza Catalunya) in about 30 minutes. One way ticket is 5,30€ and round is 9,30€.
Cheapest way is catching a train in the station next to terminal 2 (if you arrive at terminal 1 there's a free bus to get to T2). You can stop at Sants or Passeig de Gracia and take the subway there. There are also local buses, but if you carry a lot of stuff, maybe it's not the best choice.
Safest way is by taxi. It's expensive, maybe 25-30€, but if you arrive late, travel alone and don't want to get any bad surprise, it's your choice. They charge extra for your luggage.
In any case, my advice is BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS. They are really professionals here. They focus on tourists so they have many tricks (talking to you pretending they are lost, help you to clean some liquid they threw at you without you noticing it...). Yes, I know you maybe thinking
At the same time, I must say Barcelona is pretty safe. Pickpockets are not violent so it's not really dangerous, but in any case, please take care!
Moving around the city:
Subway is not the best in Europe nor in Spain, but it's ok. You can go pretty much anywhere and the frequency is good. They normally open until 00:00 in weekdays, 2:00 on Friday and all night on Saturday.
They only have escalators to go up in most of the stations so it's not very convenient if you are carring stuff or have a trolley...
Bus is ok too.
Taxi: expensive, I think.
Bicycle: very good way to discover the city by yourself. There are a lot of Bicing places where, after getting a card, you can take a bike, cycle the city and leave it in another Bicing.
There are other turistic ways to move around, like the Barcelona Tourist bus or the Gocar. I don't know about this.
Hope this helps a bit
