Best Western Duke of Cornwall Hotel Plymouth (England) Reviews
The Duke of Cornwall Nov 23, 2009
I have just returned from a two night stay at this hotel and have to say that my faith has been somewhat restored in hotels. After a few bad experiences at other hotels (reviews to follow!)I have become one of those fussy . However, I think the main difference between the Duke and other hotels is the genuine friendliness from the staff, they are professional and very capable and really seem to enjoy their job. They fall over backwards to help you but not in a creepy way. The food is excellent and locally sourced and reasonably priced, very good value. The room was small but very clean and well maintained, the only slight annoyance being that the shower gave forth barely more than a dribble. All in all, no complaints and I will return.

The Duke of Cornwall in Plymouth - great value Oct 28, 2009
We stayed at this hotel for the first time in September when we visited Plymouth for a school reunion. I don't normally write reviews but was so impressed by the service at the Duke of Cornwall that I wanted to.
It's a very old, grand building and is undergoing some renovation but any disruption was kept to a minimum and did not affect our stay. The en-suite rooms are spacious and have everything that you need ( Satellite TV, trouser press, broadband - even a hairdryer). We found the staff very genuine and friendly, whilst maintaining professionalism. There is also a Tower Room, which was unoccupied so we requested to see it. The views from this room are stunning and there is even a telescope in there, I can imagine it's fabulous on a starry night. We only dined in the hotel's restaurant one evening as it was a little pricey, but having said that I do think that the food was worth the money - just maybe slightly out of MY budget. I think that most of the produce is from local sources, it's certainly very fresh. I had the sea bass which was amazing, then some sort of lemon brulee which was very satisfying. All in all, I would recommend the Duke if ever you are in Plymouth. |
