Best Star Resort Langkawi Mar 14, 2013
Located strategically along the Cenang beach, Best Star Resort is one of the many available accommodations you could choose from. The lobby is spacious and well ventilated without air-conditioning. There's a small open space at the entrance for you to park your cars, limited to about 8 cars perhaps. Fret not if it's full, as you can park just about anywhere along the road.
There's a money changer and 2 tour offices right in front of the hotel. Cenang Mall with Maybank ATM, Starbucks and KFC is just a stone's throw away. Lots of eateries, souvenir shops and massage parlours along the street. The Underwater World is also within walking distance.
Only 2 floors of rooms, so no lifts. Walls and doors are definitely not sound proof. We didn't realize that until we heard the Korean guy next door speaking on the phone. If we could understand Korean, I would have thought that I was having the conversation with him because I could hear him so clearly! It was then I thought, shit, he must have heard everything my friend and I gossiped about! I could even hear him packing his bag (sounds of plastics and zip!) OMG! The size of the room is just nice for 2, with enough windows for natural lighting. Air-condition works just fine.
It comes with a flat screen TV on the wall but very limited channels (not that you'll want to watch TV anyway). There's a mini fridge, a cupboard with enough hangers, a safety box, a small pantry, a writing desk (but not chairs), a 2-seater sofa and an in-room telephone. They call your room if you don't check-out within 15 minutes of the check-out time! Bed is comfortable, but you're only allowed to request for one extra pillow per room. Iron is provided along the corridor, none in the room. There don't provide hair dryers.
Surprisingly spacious, with hot shower (you don't need hot shower anyway) and water pressure is good. Shampoo and Soap are provided in sachets and are replenished daily. Towels provided, but any extras, you'll have to rent!
We deliberately asked for a room without breakfast cos we didn't plan to wake up until noon (did not happen though). Besides, there are so many food choices outside, so there's really no need for an in-house breakfast. However, if you do wish to have your breakfast in the hotel, you'd be amazed by the view! Either way, it's a win-win situation.
We paid MYR 150 per night without breakfast. Somehow I think it's a bit pricey, but it's probably because of its strategic location.
They have a security doing rounds around the hotel overnight. Your car or bike or bicycle should be safe.
Service at the reception is ok. People are friendly. However, their way of replying emails are too 'casual' and do not sound professional. For example, they reply emails with "Hi, (Answer to your enquiries)", instead of "Dear xxx". I find it a bit rude for those in servicing line not to address the sender's name. But my friend said to me "You think you're staying in a 5-star hotel?". I replied "No, but they claim to be the BEST Star!" Haha!
Overall, it was a comfortable stay, but do take time to check out other hotels since there are so many for you to choose from.

Clean, reasonably priced resort motel Jun 17, 2008
The reason I chose to stay at Best Star Resort is simply because it had the cheapest rates for a Standard Room per night - MYR100 including breakfast for two.
The resort consists of two floors of rooms, with the family rooms located on the ground floor with a view of the beach. There is also a conference room as well as a room for those needing to press their clothes. Cool idea, I thought!
The good thing about this place is the cleanliness of the room as well as the bathroom. On the minus side, the air-conditioning in our room wasn't working too well. It would be cool for a few minutes, then the air would be of room temperature. Also, the tv in the room did not provide satellite channels, but two local free channels, with limited international content. So if you expect to spend as much time in your room as you do outside, then stay somewhere else.
Towels were provided, and so was a hot water kettle and mugs for hot drinks. Unfortunately, no instant coffee or tea accompanied the availability of the kettle and cups.
The resort doesn't have a cafe or coffee house per se, but it does provide breakfast as part of its room package. Don't expect a grand spread and you won't be disappointed. The breakfast spread was a local option - fried rice or noodles - and bread served with butter, jam and dried scrambled eggs.
Overall, I was happy during my stay there. It was very important to me to have a clean room, and plumbing that worked.
I would recommend staying here if you want air conditioning and a hot shower, plus peace and quiet.
