Berry Café Kyoto Reviews
A heaven for cake lovers! Dec 10, 2013
Berry Cafe by comme ça is a heaven for cake lovers. The café is located in the Kyoto station building, in the shopping area Asty Road. It is right opposite the Shinkansen Hachijo entrance.
The café is decorated with black and white photos on the wall and with brown and steel furniture. The pastry chefs are working behind a glass wall so you can watch their professional work up close. Despite lack of English, service is good and friendly.
Their menu consists of a variety of cakes of course, and a brunch spesial. The cakes are beautifully decorated with mostly fresh fruit. The fillings are custard cream, mascarpone, amandine, cream cheese, fromage blanch and bitter chocolate. The selection of the cakes varies with the season. The cakes are quite pricy, but the brunch special is a good deal and consists of fresh fruit, a small salad, a croissant and tea or coffee for $6. To drink you can have tea, coffee, orange juice or sparkling apple or grape juice.
The cakes are served on a big white square plate and decorated with sprinkled chocolate in different patterns. The cakes are really a piece of art, beautifully decoreated with a mountain of fruit. I only find that the cakes have a bit too much wiped cream, but that is just a matter of taste.
If you are a cake lover, Berry café is the place to go. They are open from 10 am to 9 pm every day.
