I'm one of those people who don't really get too excited about anything until it's actually happening. Although I leave in less than 48 hours for a 5-week trek around Eastern Europe, I don't think the reality of the situation has set in yet. It was like this when I left to study abroad in Rome, too. I watched the animated progress of our flight path on the video screen with a sense of detachment, almost like it was just a video game, not even real. Only when we were hovering somewhere above t...

A Messy Ride to the Airport
posted by:
Aug 24, 2005 - Aug 26, 2005
This entry is a bit of a digression, but it is important nonetheless because it deals with a dangerous and disturbing trend that threatens to destroy civilized culture as we know it: killer coffee lids. Angie and I had a ridiculously early flight from Oakland to Seattle, and I needed a morning cup of coffee to jolt my sleep-deprived state into something close to human. My coffee cup friend was being quite respectful until I crouched to sit in the car, whereupon it spewed forth half of its con...

Eric and David - TravBuddy Geniuses
posted by:
Apr 18, 2006 - May 19, 2006
As I left San Francisco, California to head towards Yosemite National Park, I made a brief stop in Berkeley to meet up with a couple of guys that everybody here on TravBuddy knows. At noon, I stopped at Gregoire for lunch with Eric and David, the developers of TravBuddy. It was great to finally meet the geniuses behind this great site. We had a great lunch and then drove to the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. Eric is a graduate of this university and showed me some of the gre...

Downtown Berkeley Jazz Festival

September 29, 2006 was the day I left for Salvador da Bahia. Ashkenaz happened to be having a Brazilian festival on September 29, 2007, so of course I had to go. I called my friend Stefanie and she agreed to join me and help me celebrate the one year anniversary of my embarking on the best journey of my life so far. You will probably hear Stefanie's name a lot in this blog, she is one of my good music friends from college (a great cello player) and she is willing to go to almost any co...

My brother got accepted at one of the most recognized colleges for engineering. He lives with me now and he asked me to accompany him to orientation day. My brother told me some tidbits about Cal while we were walking around campus. Cal Berkeley is the oldest of the UC campuses. He pointed out some of the bears all over the campus. He even showed me the smallest of the bears on one of the buildings. Boy, I have to tell you that engineers have their own language. I sat there with many b...

First stop: Berkeley
posted by:
Feb 16, 2006 - Feb 18, 2006
The weather was beautiful driving to Northern California. After leaving Los Angeles County, it felt so amazing to be on my own, in my own car, listening to my own music, stopping where I wanted and going wherever the hell I wanted. And especially, to be able to leave the Safely made it to Berkeley where I immediately took a nap at Drew Dog's apartment. For dinner, Sunshine and I went to Crepevine in Oakland. I've only been to the one in San Francisco in the Sunset District and I d...

Fun on Highway 17
posted by:
Dec 26, 2006 - Dec 31, 2006
Spend most of today visiting Berkeley, my former home for 5 years. The drive from Santa Cruz along windy highway 17  (the main highway from Santa Cruz to San Jose) is even more exciting than average because of unusually high winds. The winds are so strong that I see two giant trees toppled by the gusts during my drive. They fall with a crackling crash to the side of the highway - fortunately away from the road and cars. Once I get clear of the valley and work my way north up the peninsul...

US- Redwood City, San Francisco, Las Vegas 2006: Berkeley Travel Photos
posted by:

Before going to CA, what were popular in CA in my mind were the sunshine, and tasty Sunkist oranges and fruits. It was the 1st time I left Hong Kong for that long, for having placement for 2 monthes in Redwood City and Stanford. I really enjoyed staying there, together with many precious memories in travelling to Yosemite, San Francisco and Las Vagas.

Berkeley

Day 4 - part 3

Café Gratitude in Berkeley is one of the four restaurants located in northern CA (two in San Francisco, one in Berkeley, and one in San Raphael), serving tantalizing raw and vegan dishes. What a great moment and place to spend quality time with your friends! Our bodies were charmed with love, happiness, and human touch.     Thanks to our friends, Sina and Jerry, for allowing us to stay in their cozy home for two nights. It was home away from home.
