Eric says:
The best valued sandwiches in Berkeley. Get the "Turkey Delight" on a dutch crunch roll. It's fresh turkey meat and cranberry sauce packed within a sandwich roll. Just find somewhere safe to eat it, because it will drip all over the place as you are eagerly scarf it down. Sandwiches here run from $3...

I arrived at Cheeseboard Pizza very hungry after walking around Berkeley. When I got to the door, I was dissappointed to learn that Cheeseboard offers only one set of toppings per day -- in other words, if you don't like what's on the pizza that day, too bad. Still, I thought it smelled good, and I ...

Cancun Taqueria is probably best known for its large selection of
salsa-- they've got over thirty different kinds, including but not
limited to mango, strawberry, avocado, pumpkin, garlic, shrimp,
pineapple, mole, cilantro, tomatilla, cactus, and melon. The variety is
novel and a welcome break f...

Eric says:
This is a new chinese restaurant near the gourmet ghetto crossroads of Cedar and Shattuck. The space used to be occupied by another chinese restaurant that went out of business. Da Lian is definitely an improvement in terms of food, but the prices are also more expensive and the quantity of the food...

Pyramid Brewery is the typical bar/restaurant brewery with the typical burgers and ribs and bar food, except the food all tastes better. I especially recommend their St. Louis ribs, which were tender and flavorful.
Another cool thing to do here is take a tour of the brewery. They only g...

I went here for my birthday last year, and since it was on a Monday night, it was pretty empty. It is definitely not good for large parties (I'd recommend not to go with a party > 4) if you go on a night that isn't dead. The staff is also a bit stuffy, especially to younger crowds. Th...

The oatmeal chocolate chip cookies here are also pretty good. If you wait until after 4pm, all the hot food and sandwiches are 50% off. Unfortunately, most of the food is gone by then.

Liu's is a small restaurant serving Chinese food in the Solano district. While the food itself is not remarkable, the portions are. The lunch special is especially cheap, and for $5 you can get an entree that will feed you for 2-3 meals. The bok choy and beef dish is my personal favorite.

I finally got a chance to eat at Picante this Wednesday with some
people from work. Picante is a fun place to go-- it's very spacious,
brightly decorated, and the staff seems friendly. I'd been told before
going that Picante has got the best Mexican food in Berkeley. After
eating there, I agree ...

Eric says:
I think one of the coolest things about this place was the design of the main dining room. Basically, it's a small room, but instead of having walls on all sides, the back wall is just a giant window. Behind the window is a forest/garden area that is backlit, so it is really quite impressive. The f...

I agree, Kingpin is pretty good. My favorite is the old-fashioned chocolate donut, a greasy delight that melts in your mouth. It's also open really late and a good place to grab some food after a night of partying or studying.

You'd think with all the pizza places in Berkeley there wouldn't be a market for
another one, but I'm glad Pie in the Sky exists. When you step into the tiny
pizzeria, you'll feel like you've stepped onto the set of some fictitious
suburban sitcom from the 50's. The entire place is spotless, ...

Berkeley has a lot of options when it comes to Thai Food (in fact there are probably around 4 other thai places within a 3 block radius of this one), but Thai E Sun stands out for the quality food it provides at extraordinarily cheap prices. Large sized, above average entrees can be had for ~$6, and...

Eric says:
The name of the restaurant itself should tell you that this place is all about function and not about form. The food is not great, but it is cheap and plentiful. Lunch specials are only $4.15, and you'll get enough food to last you for two meals. Dinner prices are slightly more expensive. The first t...
