Bergens Tidende Lysfest Reviews
Lighting the Christmas lights Nov 28, 2010
On the Saturday before the first Sunday of advent, the local newspaper (Bergens Tidende) throw a "Lightparty for the citizens of Bergen. It begins at 4pm, when the lights of the Christmas tree and the trees surrounding the lake are lit. Then a childrens choir and some artist (varying from year to year) and the public sing Christmas carols. Most of them are in Norwegian, but you can always try to join in, the lyrics are displayed on the big screen.
If the wheater allows it, torches will be handed out at 4.30 pm. It quite special to se more and more torches being lit all around the lake as the darkness decends.
At 5 pm the event finishes with a spectacular fireworkshow.
This is one of my favourite Christmas traditions, it really puts me in a Christmassy mood. It can be extremely cold though, standing outside for an hour. Dress warmly, and head for a cafe afterwards for a nice cup of hot chocolate!
Part of the list Great days to be in Bergen
