Norweigian Cruise: Bergen Travel Photos
posted by:
Jul 07, 2007 – Jul 19, 2007
I never would have thought a cruise along the western coast of Norway would have been worthwile, but after my grandmother took my sister and I, I realized it was spectacular. The landscape had a harsh, rugged beauty and the near 24-hour sunlight within the arctic circle was really an experience. Bergen was the largest city in Norway (but has only 250,000 inhabitants). The hiking was just phenomenal - especially when we climbed on a glacier.

Bergen, Norway

Bergen is a very nice city but very rainy, too. It's famous for his dockland "Bryggen". After every serious fire the people rebuilt the framehouses. Because of that they look the same like 800 years before. A nice view over Bergen you have on the viewpoint Floyen (320m). To go there you can take th…

On the boat to Norway, from Newcastle to Bergen via Stavanger and Haugesunt
posted by:
Jul 13, 2007 – Aug 02, 2009
I can remember from the past that I got very bored on the boat. Only after twenty minutes I had seen everything and sailing on an empty lake or see was terribly boring. The boat to Norway takes a whole night and the biggest part of the day. And yet it isn't boring (anymore??). …

The most expensive country in the world. Which is what prompted me to hitch hike about 1000 miles from high above the arctic circle to Bergen in November by myself.

Norway in a Nutshell to Bergen, Norway
posted by:
Aug 28, 2009 – Sep 29, 2009
This is a kind of spur of the moment trip that I decided to take before it gets too cold and I lose the season. I bought the outbound ticket with 3 days advance and have not booked any hotels or travel or return flight. I looked at the map and kind of plotted out a route, maximizing my weekends in countries where I want to check out the nightlife. Planning to visit about 10 countries that I have nor been to before to get an idea of both the day, night life (very different) and history.
