Nice menu and good professional crowd, or you could go to Ben's Chili Bowl for a quick bite Nov 19, 2011
Ben's Chili Bowl is a historical staple on the U street corridor where Bill Cosby and Barack Obama eat. Ben's Next Door is an adjunct resturant that is more upscale and for the professional crowd. The same turkey burger at Ben's Chili Bowl will cost you more and be presented prettier at Next Door, but all-in-all, if you want a proper dinner and drinks or want to sit at the bar, Next Door is the place to be. The pasta is good, the dry ribs are yummy, the wings are perfectly spicy and most people like the sweet potato fries. The conversation is usually pleasing but it is a slightly narrow place (excuse me, excuse me, coming through, thanks).

If there's a game, the bar is impossible to get a seat at. It's metro accessible and there's always a nice crowd there. Unlike the general men:women ratio throughout DC, there tends to be more men here than women-woo hoo! But like I said, it's usually a nice relaxed chilled out crowd.

They have a decent happy hour and if people go there after work, it's quite crowded. It lightens up a little around 7 or 8 and that means there usually isn't a wait for a table and MIGHT even find a seat at the bar. By 9 or 10, it gets crowded again. They have valet parking for $10 as parking can be kind rough on U street. The music selection has gotten better and the mostly African-American crowd is complied of the after work professional crowd. Enjoy!
