Bendigo is a lovely historic town of around 100,000 people. It is mainly an Anglo-Saxon based population with some Chinese and a scattering of other nationalities.

Being an old goldrush era town, there is the "The Central Deborah Gold Mine" for tourists to visit and you will see many old gold mine poppet heads around the town. There is still a fully operational gold mine in Bendigo producing gold. The mine is one of the deepest in the world.

The Chinese had a strong presence in Bendigo in the 1800's. The annual Easter Parade has one of the longest Chinese Dragons in the world proceed through the streets on Easter Monday. It is a huge family event where almost the whole town comes out to view the parade that lasts a couple of hours. Get there early for a good vantage point.

The velodrome in Bendigo has the Madison 10000 bicycle race each year, which is a big event in itself.

The Schweppes Centre is a large basketball stadium in Bendigo that plays host not only to the Bendigo Braves and Bendigo Lady Braves basketball teams, but also hosts many concerts and performances.

Bendigo is a very central town in the state of Victoria, only an hour and a half from Melbourne by car or train. There are many smaller towns in the area that are interesting to visit like Maldon and Echuca. There are plenty of opportunities for gold seeking, bike riding, bushwalking and the city itself has excellent shopping facilities that rival Melbourne itself.

Summer sees the main swimming pool a haven for those seeking to cool down and relax. There is also an ice-rink for those from the Northern Hemisphere that might want to keep up their skating skills.

Photographers will have a great times snapping shots of all the old buildings and parks.
