Bend Vacation Guide
Bend is the largest town in Central Oregon, with a population of 75,000, and is the hub of all outdoor activities for the area.
Bend is situated on the Deschutes river which runs through town seperating the west side from the east. Downtown Bend has boutique shops and retauarants. The Old Mill Shopping area has more shopping opportunities.
Bend sits at an elevation of 3,500 feet on the eastern edge of the Cascade range. To the east of town is the high desert coutry of sagebrush and juniper trees. Bend has cold winters with occasional snow storms and hot sunny days in the summer.
There are numerous hotels and motels in town as well as destination resorts and lots of golf courses.
Outdoor activities are the main draw for visitors (and residents as well) to Bend. The nearby Deschutes National Forest has numerous hiking and camping opportunities in the summer and in the winter alpiine skiing at Mount Bachelor Ski Area and cross country skiing and snowshoeing at the several sno-parks along the road heading to Mount Bachelor.
