'Enjoy the splendor at Bena traditional Village' May 06, 2009
My second trip to Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT)., I do not forget to visit the village of Bena. The village that really made me fascinated about the tribe and village and to learn about there interesting old customs. Also The views towards the village of Bena are enriched by beautiful scenery. So do not forget to capture the natural landscapes with your camera.

Bena is the name of a traditional village located in the village of Tiworiwu, District Aimere, Ngada. The settlement is notable for the presence of a number of admirable megalithic buildings and the livelihood of people who still maintain the authenticity of the township. Bena traditional village located right at the foot of the Mountain Inerie (2245ft) above sea level.

The village is located only 18km from Bajawa City on the island of Flores. The city is visited by many tourists, the weather is cooler here as the area is hilly. A trip of 40 minutes by public Bus can be made from the City, so it is worth taking time to Visit Bena and to see for yourself how life here has not changed from generation to generation.

life here seems suspended in the stone age times, but you are able to enjoy the hospitality of its inhabitants, with their mouths impregnated with a smile of the red from chewing many betel nuts.

Since 1,200 years ago the inhabitance maintain the cultures of Nine Tribes who now inhabite 45 houses...these tribes are: Dizi tribe, tribal Dizi Azi, Wahto tribe, tribal Lalulewa roar, roar Solamae tribe, tribal Ngada, Khopa tribes and tribal Ago. Each tribes houses are set at different levels up the slope of this hillside Village, some of the tribes houses differ in hight as much as 9 feet. The Bena tribe considered the oldest and founders of the village are housed in the middle, which is the place of right for them as the name of the village is Bena

Generally people in Bena tribes have livelihoods as cultivators with verdant gardens growing on the sides of the canyon that surrounds the village. To communicate they use their everyday language which is Nga'dha. Almost all the residents of Bena Village are of Catholic religion, but still running are indigenous ancestral beliefs and traditions. Women in the Bena tribe are required to have expertise in traditional weaving with a motivation to weave sarongs of horses and elephants as their trademark.

Here you can also satisfy to observe many megalith rocks arranged for ceremonies with fascinating formations. Discover the luxury and splendor of the stone age cultures displayed. Residents Bena long ago assumed that mountain, rocks, and animals should be respected as part of life.

Enjoy the splendor of one of the most amazing cultural heritage sites in the archipelagos, here in Bena.
