A sense of history Jul 07, 2017
This hotel consists of just four rooms, on the first floor above an old saloon, now a restaurant. Ours was one of the two 'town view' rooms (the other two overlook the water) - a large room, the very definition of 'faded grandeur'. The ceiling was high, the upholstery on the wing chairs shiny with wear, the wallpaper chintzy and there was a real patchwork quilt on the bed (wedding ring pattern, for those who share my interest in such things!) The bathroom was also large, with a shower over a tub and two washbasins.

The bed, a standard double, was comfortable but there were a few drawbacks to all this history! The toilet cistern ran constantly unless we shut it off manually (fishing about inside) after each flush, and the large bay window, while it had both blinds and curtains, couldn't be covered at night as neither of these would budge.

But we relished the amount of space we had, and the great location on Water Street, within easy walk of several restaurants. The wifi worked well and although there is no parking attached to the hotel, we quite easily found a space on the street not too far away. Overall, we were very happy with our choice of hotel here and it’s definitely the most economical option in this part of town – only the edge of town motels can compete with it on price. I would certainly recommend the Belmont on that basis, and even more so if you like a bit of character in your accommodation, as we do.
