Top Class Fish and Chips Feb 06, 2017
The good news is that Bells offers top quality and delicious fish and chips. The bad news? It’s priced accordingly. To be fair, it is worth it. You know it’s going to be upscale when they have a Sustainable Fish Policy. Bells gets it fish from their supplier, 'Field's' of Esh Winning. Fields has been a wholesaler of fish since 1918 and also adhere to a sustainable fish policy which means they only land fully grown fish in approved fishing areas in the North Sea.

How does it taste? Delicious. Their fish are massive, tasty, fresh and served in a nice cardboard box to takeaway. A really excellent meal.

Free History Lesson:

Bells website explains a little about its history. It is on the edge of Durham’s Market which first began operation in 1189. Many of the building nearby date from this era and many more from the Medieval ages. Bells Fish and is actually located within the structure of 2 old buildings. Parts of the timbered buildings and their windows date to around the 15th century. There is student accommodation above Bells and one of the rooms has the original Italian plaster from around 1630. The facade of Bells dates only from the Victorian era. This is because its front was in a hairpin turn during the centuries of horse drawn carriages. Apparently more than one coach in more than one century crashed into it and made repairs necessary again and again.
