Belem fish market is a heaven for fish lovers of all kind. Stalls host many fishes that can’t be found anywhere else, from huge giant fish of Amazon to small scaled fish to many kinds of Piranhas. Main fish market is located between small fishing port and Mercado Vero-O-Peso on the Belem’s river front. There is another fish market in town but that one is not specifically for fish. If you get there early enough you’ll see raw fish dealings and real deal beauties before they are snatched by restaurants and hotels. Stall owners chop fish with large machetes, and cut the smaller fish with many lines so that they are easier to grill. Very picturesque place, not very clean but survivable…
