Stinky hippies and funnel cakes make for a great weekend! Jan 27, 2009
Bele Chere is an annual street festival in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. This year it lands on July 24th through the 26th. It involves lots of music, some crazy art usually based on blown glass or hippie sweat thrown on canvas, and a whole lot of funnel cakes. Did I mention there are a bunch if hippies that fill the streets. A couple of things to say is that the festival is safe, I have been for a few years and I've not heard of anyone getting pickpocketed or jumpped after dark. Speaking of after dark, you'll need to move out of the way for the staggering locals, they don't know when to cut themselves off and they sure don't know how to say "excuse me". It's a fun way to kill time over the weekend and it's free to enter. Lots of families, rides for kids, it makes for a good time.
