Beira Vacation Guide

Beira is one of the major seaports not only for Mozambique but for the interior countries of now Zambia and Zimbabwe, formally the area known as Rhodesia. Beira is famous as a sea port and rail head for war material that was shipped to the interior during the war years. Today the rail roads are mostly defunct and trucks have taken over the movement of material to the interior countries.

Some of the later building construction in Beria resembles Soviet era building construction, poured concrete sections installed by cranes in a rather haphazard way. There has been much influence by the former and present communist countries on Mozambique.
