We are sadly leaving the wonderful, friendly, green area of Yangshou to return to busy, noisy, crowded Beijing. We were in Yangshou so long the vendors recognised us and stopped to talk. Several restaurants knew us and spoiled us when we came in..... back to being annonomous... sigh. ...... our departure airport is Beijing. so there is no getting around it. We either have to leave or talk our three adult daughte...

It's our last day in China. I spent the morning acting as travel agent, researching future accommodation options, checking flights, and day-dreaming about Bali. At some point in the mid morning I mentioned I’d like to go to Bally’s for a last workout, and Steve responded by rushing to get his workout clothes into the laundry. When it was time to leave he begged out -- clothes still wet. Very clever, that one. The warmth outside caught me off guard. The sun was for once winning the battle ...

The late night out and jet-lag conspired against me to make this a lazy day. I woke up late, grabbed some breakfast, then spent a few hours updating my blog and watching sumo wrestling on the hotel T.V. It was wild.I caught an 8 PM flight out of Beijing and arrived back in Los Angeles on 5 PM of the same day. Now I can add TIME TRAVELER!!! to the list of my accomplishments.

People I met here who contributed to, and improved my trip: Julia (Russia)
There was only one thing on my mind when we arrived back into Beijing... fish and chips. An English couple in Busan had recommended an establishment called Fish Nation and ever since I'd arrived back into China, it had been in my peripheral thoughts that i really had to go and give them my seal of approval.
The subway took us to Beixinqiao station and from here it was a 15 minute walk through a pleasa...

Our driver took us next to the Beijing Zoo, where he dropped us off out front so we could buy tickets, while he went in and parked in the lot (presumeably to have another nap) We bought our entry passes, and went to our first stop..the Panda House! You could just buy tickets to the panda exhibit if you wanted to, but we got passes for the whole zoo. Just inside, there was immediately a crowd of people gawking through the glass at the pandas...

Well, it's a long day! The road to the Ching east tombs was not straightforward to say the least. There were some really poor road conditions due to trucks carrying construction material, rocks, sand, etc. so that the air was so think with dust, it was pretty amazing. The trees at the side of the road were so covered in dirt they looked like fake trees. At one point, the road was blocked by some uniform wearing guys saying we had to take a detour through some farm back roads, and the back roa...

Beijing, China.... there are different kinds of food to try here, from your regular kungpao chicken to the most unimaginable food that you could think of....There is one street over at Beijing that offers all this kind of foods...The smell of the food was not really the best, but the experience was really different. I was tempted to try one, but i kind of backed off on some of the food they offered, i tried the deep fried starfish and the seahorse, but when it comes to so...

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed at the amount of Temples of different shapes and sizes ... part of me now wants to go onto our next destination, but another part of me just wants to take all the history in throughout the many fortresses built in Beijing that hold alot of history about the past and how Ancient China has affected today's China ... their food (eg. rice and tea etc.), clothing, gov't, and dishes ...
I begin to get back into the touring ... I guess because I am presented...

TIAN’ANMEN SQUARE
The very center of the People’s Republic of China and the world’s largest public square (the size of 90 football fields); Tian'anmen still reverberates with the ghosts of recent history.
THE FORBIDDEN CITY (Imperial Palace)
We visited China’s most popular attraction. The vast inner city of 24 emperors for almost 500 years (1421-1911) is China’s most impressive treasure house. Only occasionally would an emperor ventu...

I got an email from my mom about there being an LL Bean in Beijing, and so of course, I had to find it. After looking on the internet, I found that there is indeed one, and it isn't too far from my apartment. It's in a mall near Chaoyang Park. So today, we (roomie and I) headed up that way. After taking the new and chiny line 10 from Shuangjing to Liangmaqiao where we got on a bus. First thing I noticed about Solana was that it was big (didn't know how big though...

Today myself and Kenton, my American roommate from San Fancisco trekked back up to the restored part of the Great Wall of China to take a few photos in the sun before heading back to pack and shower.
We checked out of our guest house and boarded the bus back to Beijing. By the time we reached Beijing the temperature was 37 degrees and we were all wilting in the sun, we sheltered in the air conditioned supermarket and grabbed some food for our twelve hour train journey to Xi'an.
Faces ...

At least this flight wasn't delayed! Flying another almost 6000 miles over the Pacific and I arrived back in San Francisco airport about 12 hours later. Time to unpack and look through my photos and update my blog. This trip took me almost 2000 km or 1200 miles by train and bus, and 2 domestic flights in China in less than 2 weeks. It was sort of a whirlwind tour of only part of the Silk Road in China. Is this for everyone? Definitely not, there were almost no 5 star hotels, and some places ...

I had saved the best for my Last day here in China, the Forbidden Palace. Headed towards the Square with Cyril, (the French 40'sh guy I met at the hostel last night who just got here and didnt seem to know where to start) to meet up with Helen at 9 am. Have totally allocated one whole day for the Imperial Grounds hoping to not miss any hall on the palace grounds. The air was still chilly at 3degrees, yet tourists and groups of school kids on a field trip now&nbs...
