Beijing Tuk Tuk's BEWARE Dec 08, 2014
This information is important for anyone going to Beijing to beware of the Tuk Tuk SCAM. It is known that Tuk Tuk drivers will offer you a ride for a very cheap price around 3 Yuan and once your in their vehicle they will not take you directly to where you want to go but take you through the Hutongs claiming its a shortcut. The Hutongs are a maze of alleyways where you can easily get lost. Once in the Hutongs they will stop somewhere quiet then try to charge you for example 300 Yuan instead of the 3 Yuan originally agreed, if you don't pay they get aggressive. It happened to a couple of friends of mine and they stood up to the little scammer and refuse to pay him but people have been known to be injured in confrontations. Lucky our friends made a run for it and they were only one alley way from the main street close to the Forbidden Palace.

These horrible little Tuk Tuk drivers hang around the main attractions looking for targets mainly western. AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE! If you need to get anywhere in Beijing then use the metro or a licensed taxi driver.
