Bedford was first settled in 1751 and was originally called Raystown. It was renamed to Bedford in 1795. The British Army set up a fort named Fort Bedford after the Duke of Bedford in 1758. George Washington and his army marched to Bedford in 1794 as part of the Whiskey Rebellion.
Today Bedford is the county seat of Bedford County and has a population around 3,100. In Bedford is the recently restored Bedford Springs Resort, a popular resort of the 19th century.

The PHL to PDX Ride to Benefit CancerCare is a result of the perseverance of Lauren Cocco and Chris Froberg. Leaving Philadelphia on June 20, they are riding (and documenting) their bikes 3,000 miles to Portland in honor of Lauren’s grandfather, Anthony Cocco and have named CancerCare the beneficiary.
