Bear's Paw Café Barkerville Reviews
This winner delivers on its promises: great service, food and atmosphere Jan 31, 2016
N53°6.158' W121°34.056' The Bear’s Paw Café shouts “great food, great atmosphere and outstanding service” in a former mining town along the road to historic Barkerville. It there any truth in it? In August 2015, the jury visited The Bear’s Paw Café to draft the verdict.
Outstanding service: a volunteer server, retired resident of Wells, helping the owner with a sick staff member, greeted us. He was totally dedicated in his task and found his sole purpose when he was the only one that could speak French with French guests. The owner explained the menu and his advice developed in a nice conversation about a day hike to the missile on Mount Murray. His drawing of the track with the Hump Bypass was dead accurate. The next day, we returned and he asked about our experience. We found the service in Bear’s Paw Café very personal and very good. Great hospitality.
Great food: In absence of coho salmon, we ordered the first day 6 oz. fillet of tender, grilled, sockeye salmon for CAN$19, served with a roasted red pepper sauce, green salad, roasted mini-potatoes and a sautéed vegetable medley. The salmon was very well grilled. Excellent flavour and texture. With homemade carrot and chocolate cake, we finished an excellent meal. We returned the second day to order buffalo meatloaf, made with 70/30 blend of lean BC bison and organic BC beef and served with homemade tzatziki, roasted and pan fried potatoes and coleslaw with a white balsamic dressing. Very good, like the second main dish of Thai noodles with peanut sauce, fresh sautéed vegetables, red pepper, zucchini and bok choy and onion. Culinary quality cooking in this former mining town.
Outstanding atmosphere: we liked the side room because of its high ceiling and great pictures on the walls very much. We witnessed every guest enjoying him- of herself in good company. Bear’s Paw Café has a special atmosphere, we liked very much.
We confirmed that the Bear’s Paw Café is indeed a winner. If you are driving on the Cariboo highway 97, take near Quesnel Barkerville highway 26 and drive for one hour to Wells. The Bear's Paw Café will make you diversion worthwhile. Very recommended.
