Ain't as good as it once was, but as good once as it ever was. Aug 09, 2012
Eight years ago Bearded Monkey was THE place to be. Now it's not what it used to be, but it's still pretty popular and not too bad. The cost is $5 for a dorm bed, and the private rooms are pretty cheap too. I could almost swear they've come down on their prices. They used to have a delicious restaurant, especially for breakfast. They tell me they are in the process of renewing their kitchen and that's exactly what I'd tell people too. Rooms feature bunk beds and large lock boxes for which you provide the lock or may rent one for a small fee. Showers are better than other hostels and bathrooms a little more plentiful. The TV Room has a decent selection of DVDs, and as always you can meet great people from all over the world. The central room/courtyard has half a dozen hammocks and plenty of tables and chairs. Drinks are on sale at the main desk, and they're always friendly. Laundry services are available for a reasonable rate. Good WiFi, and old desktop pc's available. (Picture borrowed from internet. Thank you to the one who took it.)
