Bayou City Art Festival Reviews
Exploring an Outdoor Artists Festival Oct 10, 2009
The Bayou City Art Festival, sponsored by the Art Colony Association, is my favorite outdoor festival in Houston. This festival is held twice yearly at two locations around the City. Each April, the festival is held in Memorial Park along the park trails. Each October, the festival is held in downtown Houston around the pool at City Hall.
I try to go anytime this festival is held as artists from all over the United States are in attendance. It's a great place to buy unique gifts and meet talented people. Admission to the festival is $10.00, which is well worth the money. There are lots of tents to explore, along with food, bands and wine tasting. If you happen to have children with you, there are craft tents for the kids. The artists are always friendly and excited to talk about their art. Anything is available from oil paintings to sculptures to photos from around the world. I went this weekend to the fall festival and it was interesting talking to a photographer who had traveled all through Bhutan and northern India. This festival is held when Houston's weather is at its best. Crowds are large and this festival is one of the largest (in the top three)arts festivals in the United States. If you are visiting Houston in either April or October, keep your eyes open for the Bayou City Art Festival. I could easily spend all weekend at this festival as there is so much to do. This is one of the best festivals the City offers. |
