Tverskaya Ulitsa, Moscow, Russia

Big Let Down Apr 07, 2010
Last night in Moscow, and thought after reading about it, before we went, that this would be a good place.
It is directly opposite the American Bar And Grill we were in the night before, but it might as well have been a million miles away.
First impressions were really good, it looked like a little piece of Germany transported into Russia. Had a very Germanic bar to the left as you went in, and a cloakroom, and then you went downstairs as it is on 3 levels.
However, for the only time in Moscow, the language barrier was a real issue, as by now we were used to going into the restaurants and getting away with the basic Russian phrases and them being able to speak perfectly good English :D
Waitresses were all wearing tradiional German costumes, but the one we got had no English at all. Should have been no problem, as the menu was in German as well as Russian, and I knew enough to work it out, but we ended up having to point to everything on the menu.
Maybe the lassie felt uncomfortable with it all, but we seemed to be left alone for a long time. Service was slow even to get a first beer.
Wife and I both went for schitzel, can't go wrong with that ;), and son went for chicken. Daughter went for pasta parcels, which came out looking very pretty, but it was served with what she descibed as onion flavoured pencil sharpenings :O.
It was a long haul in there to get a meal :( and this time we didn't hang about and left as soon as we could.
