Special exhibition in pre-Christmas time Feb 26, 2017
Ok, now that I write this, we all northern hemispherers still celebrate the beginning of spring; it is too early to think about Christmas. But Christmas comes soon, so ... for those who plan to visit Munich in wintertime, here is my recommendation:

Go and visit Bayerisches Nationalmuseum – Bavarian National Museum for their nativities exhibition!! On the museum website I have read that this is the largest nativity exhibition worldwide, with 60 scenes from Munich, the Alps and Italy, manufactured between 1700 and early 20th century. The largest nativity is maybe the one from Napoli with approximately thousand figures of a larger than usual size. Ok, I didn’t count them, but it is a lot of figures! They also show how the figures from Napoli are built, and also how their restoration is being done when necessary.

Apart from the nativity exhibition the museum is also excellent, but this shall be topic of another tip.

Time "needed": ok, this is personal preference. I needed approximately three hours for the nativity exhibition alone. But then I am somewhat addicted to museums :-)

Further information: look up "Bavarian National Museum" in www and then exhibitions, and there nativity exhibition.

Opening times of the nativity exhibition:

Usually from early November to end of January.

(However, in October 2014 it was already open mid October. Staff told me that they open it earlier when other special museum-specific events happen in Munich. That year it was the “Long Night of the Museums” a couple of days later.)

Museum opening times:

Tuesday to Sunday: 10:00 – 17:00, Thursdays 10:00 – 20:00. Closed on Mondays.

Entrance fee:

7 Euro for adults, including a multimedia (audio) guide.

Daypacks allowed, photography too (including with flash).

The museum is located near Englischer Garten, approx. 4 minutes to walk from the southern entrance/surfers’ wave to the east.
