Bauhouse Hostel Cuenca Reviews
Bauhouse Hostel Jun 18, 2016
Bauhouse Hostel is just a block and half away from the main plaza. Perfect location for relaxed stay, close to both large mercados, loads of restaurants, galleries and museums. Bus station is not far away, maybe some 10 blocks, so you can potentially walk over to the hostel (taxi is only 2$ if you wish to do that). Same thing with the airport. For me important thing is proximity to mercados and amazing food they offer. This markets are well designed, clean and full of incredible goodies. I enjoy seeing this abundance of food, strange fruits, colors, and smells, and I kond of plan my day around visits to the market…
Security is not on the highest level and pretty much anyone can access the dorms without being seen from the reception. There is one camera at the front door, but that is the camera from the door and screen is on the phone that probably does not record it. Hostel is on the second floor of the high ceiling older building. There is one more floor above it but it is not used and it is under the lock and key.
Owners designed everything with care, and all tables, doors, chairs reception desk are uniformed in style and look. Simple, bauhouse signage leads you to restrooms, wifi, there is also a map of the place… Pretty cool if you ask me. Place is spacious, has lots of area for hanging out and playing games. There is also some serious entertainment thing going on with thons of movies, games to play (I am not sure which console) and some old fashion board games. They have three TV-s with cable and many channels. Hostel also hosts small shop with artisanal stuff, hats and some clothing/ trinkets. At this time there are Copa America and EURO cup going on so the boys are glued to at least two TV-s. Living room has a comfortable couch and a locker for your stuff if you need to wait when you are leaving or getting into hostel.
Breakfast is served for free, and it includes toast and scrambled eggs. You can indulge yourself with some jam or spread and coffee and tea. They have a nice food area that is usually empty during the day.
Rooms look very good, lots of light, airy, my dorm had two floors, pretty cool. Beds were a bit weird, smaller/thinner than usual, but comfortable and easy to sleep on. They have sizable lockers in the rooms for your stuff. Some rooms also have balconies but those are a bit small even for a chair to be placed in. It is cool to hang out and watch people passing under. Showers are pretty good, good temperature, clean, airy. WiFi is available only some times, and there is no rule to it. I think that there is something wrong with their router because they do have connection.
In general this is one of the better hostels in town. Very convenient, clean, has all basic things that you are looking at when you are backpacking. Price for dorm is around 9$, so enjoy it…
