While most people choose to visit Central Park when they want to escape the city and be amongst some nature; I choose to visit Battery Park instead. Battery Park is located in Battery Park City, which is in the most southern part of Manhattan. It is a quaint park that is facing the New York Harbor where the Statue of Liberty can be found in all her glory and where the Hudson River meets the East River.

There are two ferries that depart from Battery Park. They will both get you a closer look for those pictures of Lady Liberty that you so desire to take. The free way is to take the Staten Island ferry (see my review on this method for more information). The other way, which is not free, is to take the Ellis Island ferry. The latter gives you the most intimate view of her, as you are able to disembark and walk around the statue. Unfortunately, you are no longer able to actually go inside the statue.

My favorite part of Battery Park is the Promenade. The Promenade is along the waterfront. You can find grassy knolls to lazily sun bake or picnic on, a bike path to bike or stroll along, and quiet benches in the shade to ponder life while eating a giant pretzel sold from the various vendors throughout the park.

this made me sooo nostalgic! My H.S. (Stuyvesant) is really close to this park. We used to lie on the grass and eat zeppolis when the weather permitted, getting powdered sugar everywhere! Do you have more pics?! =)
