Battambang the second largest city in Cambodia is a very beautiful area to tour in. With countryside scenery unique to Cambodia. It also has some good sites not so far out of town such as Phnom Banan, Phnom Sampeau, Wat Ek, the Tonle Sap and of course the famous nori trains.

Day trips can be easily made to many of the sites listed above, out of all the provinces in Cambodia tourists favour Battambang for its countryside life and scenery.

Battambang is also the place to get the boat to Siem Reap. It’s a really great trip through floated villages and the Tonle Sap Lake.

I could've eaten a duck embryo and well, I did! Yes, this time around I didn't chicken out. So I hopped on a bus to Battambang, a sleepy town closer to the Thai border. I was looking forward to putting war behind me and also meeting up with Alex, a friend I traveled with in Laos. She was coming in from Siem Reap. I arrived first and grabbed a hotel, and when Alex showed up exhausted from her 8-hour bus ride over horrendous roads, I knew I was going to take the boat to Siem Reap instead. Bac...

Myself and Ben (guy from NZ) hired  two scooters and a driver to get us out of Battambang to see some of the sites. The journey turned out to be great as we sped along bumpy dirt roads through villages with children waving and shouting "heeello". The children in these villages unlike elsewhere I have been in Cambodia genuinely were pleased to see you and greeted you with a smile instead of saying something along the lines of "mister, you buy bracelet" or "you buy book from me" etc. Afte...

Comedic Start To The Cambodian New Year

Seen as we can't get planes or buses right, we thought we would take the scenic route up the river from Battambang to Siem Reap. It's the hot and dry season in Cambodia so the water levels are low. This means that the only boats that can use the river are the slower diesel-powered ones, one that would take us double the time it would take in the wet season. It was good fun, despite the early start, to cruise up the river, watching Cambodian life away from the cities and towns we had become ac...

Paid for a Big - Fast ferry boat that turned out to be a Small - Slow boat!

I woke up early in the morning in Battambang and was greeted by a nice view of the sunrise as I stepped out of the hotel room where I stayed.  Hmmm what a lovely day to navigate the Tonle Sap Lake going to Siem Reap!  The night before, I bought the ferry boat ticket at the hotel counter.  I chose the "Big and Fast" ferry boat and paid for it after confirmation that there is going to be a big boat the following day. As I arrived to the boat station, I overheard an older caucas...
