Going Down to Marcos Town
posted by:
Jun 06, 2008 - Jun 09, 2008
We proceeded to the town of Batac, or as some would call it, as Marcos Town. All clumped together across the Batac Church are the Balay Ti Ili - the late President Ferdinand Marcos' ancestral house, Marcos' birthplace on the other side (or so I'm told, I'm actually confused about this), and in between is the Marcos Mausoleum. Behind it is the Marcos Museum situated on the ground floor of another house. The Balay Ti Ili is off limits to the public. In the mausoleum, Marcos' body is still lies …

Day 2B - Batac, Ilocos Norte

After the Paoay Church visit, we decided to go to Batac. There's only one reason why we went to this town: Marcos Mausoleum. The mausoleum is where the glass-entombed, preserved corpse of the deposed president Ferdinand Edralin Marcos is found. The dictator died in exile in Hawaii in 1989 and his body was brought to his hometown in Batac awaiting a state funeral at the previously-featured Libingan ng mga Bayani, which no subsequent administration has dared given. Batac, here we come - i love Jolibee But we only have a day to roam Vigan and Batac. We arrived in Saturday afternoon and we have a…

Scorching Ilocandia: Batac Travel Photos

When one speaks of Northern Philippines, the province of Ilocos definitely comes into mind. A weekend holiday trip along with a busload of other local tourists took me to this part of the country where culture and nature thrives. I have quite a fascination for old and historic churches, the baroque-style Paoay Church, a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site was on top of my list of must-sees. Overall, Ilocos has exceeded my expectations, this one of the best trips I’ve had in many years.
