For the 80th Birthday of my grand mother, we had rented a house in the Belgium Ardennes in January 2006.
It's only a 3 hours drive from home but it feels realy like a holiday.
This part of Belgium is quite hilly. The people here do speak French. There are very nice places to go to like Dinant, Namur and Bastogne.
In the winter there might be a possibility of skiing. During the summer you can do a lot of outdoor sports like hikinh, climbing, canoeing.
