The battle of the Ardennes or the battle of the bulge as it was better know was the last major offensive by the Hitler during WWII. This epic battle was dramatized by the HBO series Band of Brothers but it was more than a series or drama for the men who lived it....It was life and death. The German plans were to cut the Allies in half, take the city of Antwerp and then encircle the allied Armies and force them to make a peace treaty or face death. Bastogne stond nu op het menu. We volgden de bordjes “Historical Center” en kwamen zo bij het oorlogsmuseum. For the 80th Birthday of my grand mother, we had rented a house in the Belgium Ardennes in January 2006. It's only a 3 hours drive from home but it feels realy like a holiday. This part of Belgium is quite hilly. The people here do speak French. There are very nice places to go to like Dinant, Namur and Bastogne. In the winter there might be a possibility of skiing. During the summer you can do a lot of outdoor sports like hikinh, climbing, canoeing.
