Bastimentos Vacation Guide
Bastimentos is an island within Bocas del Toro, and located in the Caribbean Sea at the east coast of Panama. The island is only reachable by boat and there are no roads. The village is located on the coast and many of the buildings are built on poles. There are some tracks on the island from the west coast to the east coast.
The island is covered with rainforest and full of wildlife. When crossing the island from west to east, you will have encounters with snakes for sure. The east coast is also known as ‘Red Frog Beach’. This name comes from the tiny red frogs living at the edge of the rainforest and beach.
When you walk up further to the east you will find a sign, telling you, you arrived in a protected area. On this part of the beach turtles lay their eggs. Night tours to protect the eggs against poachers are one of the attractions of Bastimentos.
