Bassilica Santa Prassede Rome Reviews
Golden church - Santa Prassede Dec 27, 2011
25 December 800 Charlemagne is crown emperor in Rome
Fact about the Carolingian Renaissance: “During the reign of Charlemagne there was a short lived renaissance with an intellectual and culture revival in Europe. Pope Paschal was at the forefront of this revival – and during his reign the Santa Prassade was constructed.”
When you see the Santa Prassede it look quite dull compared with other churches in Rome - which might induce you to forget about the church. If you do go inside the church you will be rewarded with a small golden chapel - the San Zenos Chapel. The light isn’t on all the time - hence if you really want to enjoy the glistering gold in the chapel you need to get the light turned on which will cost you a small donation.
The Santa Prassede is conveniently located close by the impressive Bassilica di Santa Maria Maggiore - hence if you are already going by to visit this church you might as well drop in and have a quick look at the golden chapel.
