Bassenthwaite Lake Feb 16, 2017
Situated west of Keswick, Bassenthwaite Lake is 4 miles long and is backed by the peak of Skiddaw (931m / 3054 feet). My photos were taken from the north side where it's nice to wander along the lakeside path that meanders through the woods.

On the east side of the lake is Mirehouse where the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson stayed and composed the lines in Morte d'Arthur where the sword Excalibur is cast into the lake -- no doubt Tennyson was inspired by the magnificent views of Bassenthwaite.
