In France

I made it across the channel to France last night, slept most of the way.  It was rough seas but I didnt mind it.  It was dark when we got in so I didnt see much of the coast line, like I wanted to.  There was no one on this huge ferry, I saw only about 20 persons walking around.  Got in about 11pm and the little town by the ferry port was dead.  I eventually found a little B&B and stayed there last night.  Today the weather was crazy, very strong w...

Between two showers

The weather was quite funny for August. Not warm at all, very windy, with episodes of totally blue sky and, for few minutes, very dark and raining, then the sun shining again... Luckily, once in Trouville, it was a sunny episode. Even if it is way too busy for me and there is no space for nature as I like it (sea, sand, concrete, buildings) As far as I'm concern, I found it very much nicer than Pornichet for instance as the town is really typical from Normandy with the nice house...

French people are just soooo relaxed
posted by:

I've noticed on my travels through France that the hustle and bustle of every day life is just swept aside by the wonderful French. They do things at their own pace and thats that. What a fantastic mindset that is. Why oh why cant we in England have that mentality? We are ruled by the mighty clock. And everything is a big deal. While in Bricquebec, I was in a shop and accidentally knocked, what must have been a quite expensive jar of something off a table. Immediately, I reached into my back...

Bayeux: Bayeux Travel Photos

Apparently we forgot to shut off the lights on our beautiful silver Mercedes and the battery is now dead.  Mom, Dad and Martha are waiting for the Hertz mechanic to show up ... I decided to take the opportunity to blog a bit (as waiting in parking lot with nervous parents would cause me to break open vins de blanc at this early morning hour).  Anyway - if the car starts, we are on our way to Mere St Eglise and then to Cherbourg to catch our ferry at 6pm.  We land (hopefully) in...

Bayeux, a very pretty village

On the road from Amiens, after visiting the cathedral which is the largest in France. Surprised anything remains though after seeing some 1944 photos of the area. The church itself is very impressive!! Worth the visit even if you dont believe in Jebus. Tried to visit the old fort in Caen but all the road in the centre of the city were blocked for some Christmas parade or sumfink so we gave it up as a bad joke and headed off to Bayeux. Checked into Campanile hotel on the edge of town. Went i...

On the road to Bayeux

Today started out fairly mellow, I slept in, had a nice breakfast at the hotel, and helped the owner fix his wireless internet (for very selfish reasons). It stopped working last night, and it took me a little while to convince him that I wasn’t going to blow it up.  :-)I had a light lunch in town, and then at 1pm a Normandy beach tour company picked me up at the hotel. I was initially planning on driving around myself, but after talking to some other guests last night that had taken t...

D-Day beaches of Normandy

Today we took a train out to Normandy.  It is about an hour and a half ride from Paris.  When we got there we found out that the buses to the American Cemetary and Omaha beach run every 2 hours on Sunday, and the last one had just left.  So we made friends with a few other Americans and split a cab ride.  As we understood it, the cab driver would take us to those two locations.  The cab ride was interesting because he seemed to be lost for a while, we were going reall...

There won't be anything particular to write about this exact day... besides that it was a fast sailing and back to France. I more simply enter this entry (and the following sailing route I do as well) to show my high mobility done about every single day from Poole for work (Since my summer job is to work as a Steward and qualified Ordinary Seaman onboard the High-Speed Vessel 'Condor Vitesse' of Condor Ferries.)About the ship, the ship I work on is named 'Condor Vitesse' and is basically base...

As Bayeaux is quite close we want to go and look at the famous tapestry.  I remember the date of the Battle of Hastings-1066 and know that it has something to do with this.  The tapestry is amazing and we use the headphones for the tour which gives us a version in English.  We are to find that the Europeans cater better for the international tourists than the UK or Australia for that matter do in this regard.  From Bayeaux it is on through the pretty countryside to Rouen...
